Well, since 1967, as a teenager, when he served as a draftsman for an architect who lived on his street, and whom he met while serving as his newspaperboy. “I used to earn $2 an hour, drafting plans for LeRoy Troyer, AIA, LEED, ” said Rand Soellner AIA, “and was glad just to get the experience” (who commented that Mr. Troyer since has become one of the leading housing community architects in northern Indiana and Michigan). Soellner also used to serve as a laborer and carpenter on houses being built for both residential builders and his father and grandfather. “I’ve been doing this for a while,” said Soellner, with a wink, “but you know, I keep learning things from my clients, the Cedar Hill builders who construct my residential designs and other residential builders and other architects.
